The Malta Humanist Association, in collaboration with Moviment Graffitti, held a healthy discussion on Malta’s multicultural future in Valletta on Thursday 6 July.
A friendly meeting for participants who were able to question and discuss on Malta’s growing multicultural environment and its implication on politics, society and culture.
This discussion was marked by many questioning :
-Would we like to continue with this fast paced growth in population in the future?
Is it ideal to continue increasing the diversity of the population?
– Should we change anything in the current migration/citizenship policies currently in place?
– Foreign workers are frequently abused through precarious employment. How does this affect society? What should be done about this?
Participants reflected on how they, as citizens, have the power to change the policies that minorities face. It was concluded that in the spirit of social justice, policies need to ensure that all migrants (third country nationals, asylum seekers and refugees) enjoy basic rights, so that Malta can truly embrace cultural diversity
