Through testimonies, objects, photographs and mobile images taken by the detained asylum-seekers themselves, the work provides a rare peephole into a world that is shrouded in secrecy. Journalists and NGOs continue to have little to no access to the detention centres to bear witness to the neglect, making these stories a rare opportunity for the outside world to hear what the asylum-seekers went through first hand.

 The project, which is being exhibited at Moviment Graffitti’s headquarters between Thursday 30th March and Friday 7th April, was carried out in collaboration with aditus foundation and journalist Julian Delia. The project was supported by the National Geographic COVID-19 Emergency Fund.

 The objective of the display is to act as a platform for discussion on the topic of detention. This will be facilitated through panel discussions between stakeholders in the field of migration and detention in Malta.

 Wednesday 5th April: ‘Why am I treated like a criminal?’ – Trauma and the wellbeing of asylum-seekers in relation to detention and the asylum system in general.
