The public is largely unaware of how the rapidly changing media landscape is putting such pressure on the fourth pillar of democracy.

During the panel discussion, we addressed the harsh reality that many newsrooms are radically shrinking, struggling to generate revenue and attract new journalists to the job.

The panel discussion aimed to deepen the public’s knowledge of this issue and to put/keep it on the public agenda. The event took place as part of the Global Week of Action for the SDGs. The event contributed to Goal 16: Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all, and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels.

It was moderated by Jon Mallia moderated and featured Bertrand Borg (Times of Malta), Kurt Sansone (Malta Today, Institute of Maltese Journalists), Therese Comodini Cachia (Human Rights Lawyer), and Natalino Fenech (MCAST Senior Lecturer Media & Journalism) as panellists.
